Plant phenotyping is the thorough assessment of plant traits such as growth, development, adaptation, yield, quality, tolerance, resistance, architecture, and the basic measurement of individual quantitative parameters that form the basis for understanding of traits. Genetic approaches to understand plant growth and development have always benefitted from phenotyping techniques that are simple, rapid and measurable in units. The forward genetics approach is all about understanding the trait inheritance using the phenotypic data and in most cases it is the mutant phenotypes that formed the basis for understanding of gene functions. With rapid advancement of genotyping techniques, high throughput genotyping has become a reality at costs people never imagined to be that low, but the phenotypic methods did not receive same attention. However, without quality phenotyping data the genotyping data cannot be effectively put to use in plant improvement. Therefore efforts are underway to develop high-throughput phenotyping methods in plants to keep pace with revolutionary advancement in genotyping techniques to enhance the efficiency of crop improvement programs. Keeping this in mind, we described in this book the best phenomic tools available for trait improvement in some of the world’s most important crop plants. Marker-assisted selection - Wikipedia Marker assisted selection or marker aided selection (MAS) is an indirect selection process where a trait of interest is selected based on a marker (morphological ID - Plantstresscom recent plant stress science reviews (mar 5 2017) Seed Science and Technology HAU CCS HARYANA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY Seed Science and Technology Project Database - gfoca Project Start Project End Project Title Principal Investigator meta (hidden) 2012-04: 2015-05: Virulence of Phytophthora sojae and soybean resistance to phytophthora Next generation breeding - ScienceDirect Highlights Low cost sequencing technologies has revolutionized plant breeding Low cost high throughput markers support genomic selection R&D programs ICRISAT This theme focuses on the improvement of ICRISATs mandate crops using integrated breeding approaches It makes extensive use of the global germplasm collections Molecular Breeding - incl option to publish open access Molecular Breeding is an international journal focused on applications of plant molecular biology: research most likely leading to practical applications with Plant Genomics and Gene Editing Congress - Asia 4 th Plant Genomics and Gene Editing Congress: Asia UTILISING NGS OMIC AND GENE EDITING TECHNOLOGIES TO PROGRESS PLANT RESEARCH Global Engage is pleased to announce Molecular Markers in Crop Improvement Molecular Markers in Crop Improvement D Datta Sanjeev Gupta SK Chaturvedi N Nadarajan Indian Institute of Pulses Research Kanpur - 208 024 ICAR Research topics - agri-food sciences technologies and bio Crop physiology: research of crop plant ideotype for low-input farming The need to reduce inputs in modern farming systems must necessarily go together either the
